Artist of the Month
The Art department has initiated an “Artist of the Month Award.” In November, Scott Imlach of S1 was chosen, with a Self Portrait inspired by the artist Joan Eardley. The Artist of the Month for December was awarded to a group for a collective piece of work inspired by the Scottish Colourists. Well done to Becky Cumming, Jade Anderson, Rikky Keane, Jordan Phillips and Gillian Barr, all from S3.Pupil Councils
All pupils have now participated in the democratic process by taking part in elections. The Pupil Councils have had their first meetings and have elected executive members. The councils have already highlighted some very interesting points. Pupils wishing to raise a matter at the year council can contact their class representatives.Clubs – Old and New
Ms McCue has recently announced that there will be a Maths Club for S1 pupils during lunchtime on Wednesdays. ‘Lunchtime Logic’ will help to improve problem solving and reasoning skills through playing strategy games and logic puzzles. All S1 pupils are welcome.
Also meeting weekly are the Design and Technology Club (Ms Murfin), The Scripture Union (Mr Brown), The Science Club (Ms McKie) and Ecowatch (Mrs Blackstock).A newly established Lunch Club, run by the Pupil Support Department (lunchtime - Monday to Thursday), has also got off to a good start. Activities include helping with homework, extra reading/spelling practice and the opportunity to take part in a variety of educational/social pursuits in a supported environment. The club is staffed on a rota basis by Pupil Support staff and sixth year volunteers.
Halloween Disco (Organised by Prefects)
An excellent S5/6 Halloween Party was held on the evening of Friday 27th October. Around ninety pupils and a dozen staff competed for “best dressed,” with the pupils coming out ahead - just. Best dressed girl was “Jaws” (Laura Bell) and best dressed boy was a Roman God (Fraser Holt). Close contenders were “The Scousers,” well represented by Mr Halliday and Mr Forster. The prefects had decorated the venue, provided the entertainment and made the necessary arrangements, including the “dooking for apples.” Well done to them and to everyone who attended this enjoyable event.S4 Exam Diet
The examination timetable for S4 pupils starts on 5th December and runs until 20th December.Young Musician of the Year

Charity Concert
The highlight of recent weeks was the Benefit Concert held on Friday 1st December in memory of Claire Shannon, S5. The staff choir performed a medley of Beach Boys hits, senior pupils did a ‘Weakest Link’ sketch mimicking nine well known members of staff. The Gor Nuk Bon played a new piece by Mr McGrattan, called ‘Garnock Academy.’ The P.E. Department took the stage by storm with their Mcfly routine and the final piece was ‘Downtown’ performed by music and drama staff and senior girls. Virtually all pupils managed to attend and their reaction to the acts was excellent. Thanks to those who performed, assisted or supervised.
Over £1400 was raised for North Ayshire Cancer Care and the Schiehallion Ward, Yorkhill. The pupils also intend to plant a commemorative tree and dedicate a plaque in memory of Claire. Well done to everyone involved with special thanks to Kayleigh Clarkson, Robbie Hair, Ross McKelvie, Alice Crook, and Claire’s 5th year pals.
