Garnock Academy was formed in June 1971 and moved into its present buildings in September 1972. The new school buildings are due to open in August 2015.

It is the non-denominational co-educational school serving Beith, Dalry, Glengarnock, Kilbirnie and the surrounding area The capacity of the school is 1305 pupils with 80 teachers.
