Garnock Academy Industry Awareness dayIndustrial Awareness days 2003 - Mon 2nd June and Tues 3rd JuneS3 pupils took part in an industrial awareness day this week. The aims of the day were to raise the pupils awareness of industry and to allow them to see the variety of opportunities offered by industry. It taught them to use their initiative and enterprise skills. It also taught them the importance of meeting targets and working as a team. The pupils worked in small groups and each group had a leader from industry to advise them on the exercises they undertook. The day was divided into 3 sections. The first exercise involved designing a poster to represent a website page for a company. The pupils then did a short presentation telling the rest of the groups about their company. The second exercise was to design a new biscuit for Thomas Tunnock Ltd and again to do a presentation to the rest of the groups. This produced some entertaining marketing jingles! The final exercise represented a car assembly line which involved a lot of teamwork and competitiveness between the groups. A lot of fun was had by all! Both days were a great success due to the full participation of pupils and the effort put in by the advisers from industry , who had given up their companys time to spend these days in the school. The success was also due the chairperson, Mr Tim Roulston. He set the scene for the day at the start, circulated among all the groups relating what they were doing to the real working life and acted as judge in the competitive exercises. |
